The Prevention of Another Escalation
The genocide that had been taking place in Darfur had been pushed under the table for some time by organizations like the UN. The genocide derived from multiple tribes banding together to oppose another group, and led to violent over economic status, farming methods, and Arab vs Non-Arab disputes. It began in the 1980s, when drought, famine and large deserts caused increased competition for land, disrupting relationships between local people. Farmers then start to claim every bit of land to farm or pick for food, thus closing out Herders who go through those areas. The herders, desperate to feed and give water to their animals in less and less available land, tried to forcefully open other routes to care for their animals, attacking farmers who attempted to block their paths. This would continue for years as peace came slowly between tribes.
On July 14, 2008, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, announced that he was seeking an arrest warrant for President Bashir, the leader of Darfur, for masterminding genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Darfur. It is this recognition by others to finally step in and stop a group of humans from continuing their violence that is the important part here. For the Jewish people, there really was n o one to step in and help them, and the situation escalated beyond comprehension. It is seen in this day in age how others have seen things that have pained another group of people, and because of this they step in and break the silence instead of putting it out of mind and moving on.
